Here are five common types of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) issues we help with in counseling from a local therapist near Santa Rosa Beach.

1.     What are Contamination Obsessions and Cleaning Compulsions? This is when someone is really afraid of germs, dirt, or harmful substances. They might feel like they need to clean or wash themselves or their surroundings excessively to feel safe.

2.     Do I have Checking Obsessions and Compulsions? This is when someone feels like they need to check things over and over again to make sure everything is okay. For example, they might constantly check if doors are locked, appliances are turned off, or if they made a mistake.

3.     What is an example of Symmetry and Ordering Obsessions and Compulsions? This is when someone feels a strong need for things to be in a certain order or arranged perfectly. They might spend a lot of time organizing items or arranging things until they feel just right.

4.     What are Hoarding Obsessions and Compulsions? Hoarding is when someone has a hard time throwing things away, even if they're no longer useful or needed. They might collect a lot of items and have difficulty getting rid of them, which can lead to clutter and difficulty living in their space.

5.    Am I battling Intrusive Thoughts Obsessions and Mental Rituals? This is when someone has unwanted, intrusive thoughts or images that cause a lot of distress. They might try to make these thoughts go away by performing mental rituals, like praying, counting, or repeating certain phrases in their head.

These are just a few examples of the different ways OCD can affect people. OCD can be challenging to deal with, but there are treatments available, such as therapy and medication, that can help manage symptoms and improve quality of life. It's important to remember that having OCD doesn't mean there's anything wrong with you as a person, and it's okay to seek help if you're struggling.
